Transnational Tijuana

Research work

U.S.A / Mexico - 2010

Transnational Tijuana is a manifesto design sketch, which reconfigures the border zone along the US/Mex. border by breaking down the fence between the Border Field State Park and the city of Tijuana. By developing a trans-border area of communality, the project aims to materialize the borderland as a meeting ground through the design of a shared built environment.

The design complexity takes into consideration the existing network of relationships and includes landscape and energy strategies. Transnational Tijuana envisions the possibility that the border might become a new center. Beyond the sovereignty of each State, the design aims to create a “third” space that takes in consideration the complexities, ruptures and ongoing differences that characterize the US/Mexico relationships.
